2026 FEBRUARY, ALBERTO CAMPO BAEZA HONORARY DOCTORATE FROM ION MINCU UNIVERSITY IN BUCHAREST, ROMANIA.

On 4 February 2026, the public ceremony to award architect Alberto Campo Baeza an honorary doctorate took place at the Ion Mincu University of Architecture in Bucharest.

This the fifth Honorary Doctorate he has received recently: CEU San Pablo University (2018), Lusiada University (Portugal, 2020), University of Rosario (Argentina, 2021), Università della Svizzera italiana in Mendrisio (Switzerland, 2023) and Bucharest (Romania, 2026).

The ceremony was packed with architecture students who clearly showed their admiration for the work of Alberto Campo Baeza. The beautiful laudatio entitled ‘Fiat lux’ was delivered by Manuel Blanco, architect, professor and honorary director of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (ETSAM-UPM). The event was presided over by the university rector Marian Moiceanu and presented by Professor Daniel Compsa. Alberto Campo Baeza’s grateful response, ‘The Longing for the Infinite Sea’, was brief and substantial.

Alberto Campo Baeza once again summed it all up with his THANK YOU, which in Romanian was MUCHUMESK, MUCHUMESK, MUCHUMESK.

This Honorary Doctorate has been awarded to such prestigious architects as Mario Botta (1998), Richard Meier (2002), Alvaro Siza (2005), Kenneth Frampton (2010), Eduardo Souto de Moura (2012), Glenn Murcutt (2014), Juhani Pallasmaa (2014) and Manuel Aires Mateus (2024).
