2025 MAY, HONORARY MEMBER OF THE ROYAL CONGREGATION OF ARCHITECTS
On 24 April, architect Alberto Campo Baeza was unanimously named Honorary Member of the Royal Congregation of Architects of Our Lady of Bethlehem in the Flight into Egypt. The ceremony took place in the Chapel of the Architects, located in the Church of San Sebastián on Calle Atocha in Madrid. This distinction recognises his distinguished professional career and his commitment to the humanistic and spiritual values upheld by the institution.
Founded in 1688, the Royal Congregation of Architects is the oldest association of architects in Europe. It served as a precursor to institutions such as the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and the School of Architecture. Its headquarters, the Chapel of Our Lady of Bethlehem in the Flight into Egypt, houses the remains of prominent figures such as Juan de Villanueva and Ventura Rodríguez. The Congregation also plays an active role in promoting architecture through a wide range of cultural and professional initiatives.
Alberto Campo Baeza expressed his deep gratitude for the honour and addressed attendees with reflections on the rich artistic tradition surrounding the Flight into Egypt—symbol of the institution—throughout the history of art.
